When Rigid Filaments Reach Their Limit

A phone case printed in PLA will shatter on impact; the same case printed in TPU will absorb the impact and protect the phone. A gasket printed in ABS will crack under compression; the same gasket printed in TPU will compress and seal. A grip printed in rigid filament will be uncomfortable to hold; the same grip printed in TPU will conform to the hand and provide genuine tactile feedback.

Beyond these functional advantages, TPU also has superior layer adhesion compared to many rigid filaments, making it more resistant to delamination under stress. The material is also resistant to oils, greases, and many common chemicals, making it suitable for applications in environments where rigid filaments would degrade.

Compatible with Most FDM 3D Printers

The 1.75mm diameter of this filament is compatible with the vast majority of FDM 3D printers on the market, including all major consumer and prosumer machines. TPU requires some adjustments to standard slicer settings — slower print speeds, reduced retraction, and a direct drive extruder are recommended for best results — but it is printable on most machines without hardware modifications.
