3-in-1 Undercoat Rake – De-Shedding Brush

Mats, Tugs, and Tears (Yours and the Dog's)

Double-coated friends (retrievers, shepherds, collies, huskies, most cats) shed a velvety undercoat that flat brushes skim straight over. Left alone it mats: tight little felt clumps behind ears, under legs, and across the hindquarters that pull skin and trap damp. Tackling mats with a normal brush takes an age, hurts, and teaches dogs to fear grooming Tuesday. Tools made for undercoats do the job in passes, not hours.

Three Jobs, One Head

This brush's two-sided head earns its keep all through the moult: the wide rounded rake teeth slide beneath the topcoat to lift shed undercoat and loosen tangles, while the fine comb edge sweeps through to collect it all and finish the coat smooth. Together they de-shed, de-mat, and de-fluff in a single session, with a grippy two-tone handle that stays comfortable through a full golden retriever.

Colours and Notes

• Handle colours: white, blue, pink, purple, yellow, green, or dark blue
• Head size: approx. 18 × 12 cm
• Head: stainless-steel rake teeth plus fine comb edge
• For: dogs and cats, especially double coats and longer-hair types

How to Groom Like a Pro

Start at the ends, not the roots: work the rake in the coat direction with light, short strokes, easing tangles out gradually rather than yanking. Behind ears, armpits, trousers, and tail are the usual mat hotspots; check them weekly and you're never facing a full rescue session. A little praise-and-treat rhythm makes grooming a highlight rather than a hostage negotiation.

Which Pets Benefit Most

Gold medallists for undercoat drama: huskies and spitz breeds, retrievers, German shepherds, collies, corgis, chows, and any long-haired cat. Short sleek coats need it far less, though even a smooth-coated labrador gets shinier for a weekly once-over. Skip it (use fingers or a soft slicker instead) on delicate skin, healing patches, or very fine single coats like toy poodle curls.

Care and Keeping

Lift collected fur off after each session, rinse the head occasionally and dry thoroughly. Unlike sticky-roller consumables, a steel-toothed tool is with you for years of moults.

The Great Undercoat Liberation

Picture spring moult week: ten evening minutes with the rake and the fur comes out in soft felted sheets you half-expect to be cardable into a second, slightly smaller dog. The sofa regains its original colour. The dog is cooler, lighter, and visibly smug.
